We deliver the full water main scope on residential subdivisions, commercial precincts and industrial estates across South-East Queensland — from greenfield DN100 reticulation and service connections to property boundaries through to large-diameter trunk main extensions connecting new growth areas to the council mains network.

Our work complies with WSAA WSA 03:2011, AS/NZS 3500.1, AS 2032 (UPVC installation) and AS 2033 (PE installation), together with the distributor-retailer's specific design and construction guidelines. We carry out all hold-point inspections and manage the documentation required to progress through your infrastructure agreement — from initial design submission through to conditional acceptance and handover.

We operate as both principal contractor (design-and-construct) and subcontractor. Civil contractors and developers can engage us directly under a fixed-price or schedule-of-rates subcontract. We attend all witness and hold points, coordinate the shut-down and tie-in with the distributor-retailer, and deliver the full as-constructed documentation package.

New water main installation

DN100–DN300 UPVC pressure pipe to AS 2032 for residential and commercial subdivision reticulation. Hydrant installations, gate valves, air valves and pressure reducing valves included.

Main renewal & relining

Pipe-in-pipe relining (HDPE slip-lining, CIPP) and open-cut renewal of deteriorated mains. Post-completion CCTV and pressure testing, with updated as-constructed documentation for asset management.

Service connections to property boundaries

Individual property service connections installed to AS/NZS 3500.1 and distributor-retailer standard connection details. Traffic control, road opening permits and reinstatement managed.

Connection to council mains

Live network connections and tie-ins to existing mains under live pressure. Shutdown coordination with QUU, Logan Water and Gold Coast Water. Disinfection, flushing and bacteriological clearance.

Infrastructure agreement support

Full documentation package — GPS as-constructeds in MGA94/12d, pressure test certificates, bacteriological clearances, material certifications to AS/NZS 4020.

Design & approvals

We review the hydraulic design against WSA 03:2011 and the relevant distributor-retailer's design guidelines (QUU, Logan Water or Gold Coast Water). Where design-and-construct is required, we prepare or check hydraulic drawings, submit engineering design documentation and obtain all relevant infrastructure agreement approvals before breaking ground.

Excavation & pipe laying

All trenching is completed in accordance with AS/NZS 3500.1 and WSAA WorksSpecs. Pipe material — UPVC installed per AS 2032, HDPE per AS 2033, DI or MSCL depending on operating pressure and service conditions — is selected to specification. Bedding, haunching and backfill are placed and compacted to the relevant standard. All fittings, hydrants and valves are installed to alignment drawings.

Tie-ins & service connections

Live network tie-ins are coordinated directly with the distributor-retailer's asset management team. We manage the shutdown notice, isolation, disinfection and tie-in sequence to minimise supply interruption. Service connections to property boundaries are installed to AS/NZS 3500.1 and the distributor-retailer's standard connection detail. All connections are chlorine-dosed and swabbed in accordance with Australian Drinking Water Guidelines and WSAA procedures.

Pressure testing & disinfection

Every main is hydrostatically pressure-tested to 1.5× working pressure and held for the required duration under AS/NZS 3500.1. Chlorination, flushing and bacteriological sampling follows AS/NZS 4020 and AS 1657 procedures. All test records and lab results are provided to the distributor-retailer as part of the infrastructure agreement documentation package.

As-constructed documentation

GPS as-constructed drawings are produced in MGA94 coordinate system and exported to 12d format for submission to the distributor-retailer. Documentation includes: pipe schedule, material certification records, joint records, pressure test certificates, bacteriological clearance, and CCTV footage of any appurtenance installations. We manage the infrastructure agreement submission through to conditional acceptance.

Common questions from developers, civil contractors and project managers about water main installation and renewal in SE Queensland.

What pipe materials do you use for water main installation in SEQ?
The pipe material is selected to match the operating conditions and distributor-retailer specification. For residential and commercial reticulation mains we most commonly use unplasticised PVC (UPVC) pressure pipe to AS/NZS 1477, installed in accordance with AS 2032, rated at PN12.5 or PN16 depending on system operating pressure. HDPE is specified for trenchless installations (horizontal directional drilling, pipe bursting) and locations with aggressive soils, installed in accordance with AS 2033. Ductile iron (DI) is used where high mechanical protection is required — such as road crossings and large-diameter mains. For trunk mains carrying higher pressures, mild steel cement-lined (MSCL) pipe may be specified. All materials conform to WSA 03:2011 and AS/NZS 4020 to ensure they are suitable for use in contact with drinking water.
Do you carry out water main renewal and relining as well as new installation?
Yes — water main renewal and rehabilitation are part of our scope alongside new installation work. For aging or deteriorated mains, we carry out pipe-in-pipe relining using HDPE slip-lining or cured-in-place lining where the host pipe is structurally compromised but the alignment and grade are acceptable. Where the main has failed or is beyond rehabilitation, we carry out open-cut renewal — removing the old main and installing new UPVC or HDPE pipe to the current distributor-retailer standard. We also carry out localised repairs to existing mains — collar repairs, joint repairs and section replacements — as reactive maintenance for councils and utilities. All renewal and relining works include post-completion CCTV inspection and pressure testing, with updated as-constructed documentation provided for the distributor-retailer's asset management system.
How do you manage a live water main tie-in without disrupting supply?
Live tie-ins require careful coordination with the distributor-retailer (QUU, Logan Water or Gold Coast Water). We submit a shutdown notice at least 10 business days prior to the tie-in date, confirming the isolation valve locations, estimated supply interruption duration and downstream customers affected. On the day, our crew arrives with all pre-fabricated connection fittings, chlorine dosing equipment and a standby pump in case of unexpected supply issues. The isolation is confirmed by the distributor-retailer's representative before we commence. Post-connection, we dose and flush the new section to AS/NZS 4020 levels, collect bacteriological samples and do not commission the main until we receive clearance from the lab. The whole sequence — shutdown, connection, disinfection, commissioning — is documented and submitted with the infrastructure agreement package.
What documentation do you provide for a water main infrastructure agreement?
Our standard documentation package for a water main infrastructure agreement includes: GPS as-constructed drawings in MGA94 coordinates exported to 12d or DWG format; a pipe and fitting schedule with AS/NZS 4020 material certification for all products; joint records and installation inspection sheets; hydrostatic pressure test certificates signed by a licensed plumber; chlorination and flushing records; NATA-accredited laboratory bacteriological clearance certificates; and a completed infrastructure works notice (IWN). Where required by the distributor-retailer, we also prepare an operation and maintenance manual for any appurtenances (air valves, pressure reducing valves, hydrants) installed as part of the works. All documentation is presented in the format specified by the relevant distributor-retailer's infrastructure agreement template.
Which distributor-retailers are you familiar with in South-East Queensland?
We work across the South-East Queensland combined service area and have practical experience with Queensland Urban Utilities (QUU), Logan Water (Allconnex Water legacy network, now managed by Logan City Council), Unitywater (Moreton Bay and Sunshine Coast), and Gold Coast Water (Gold Coast City Council). Each distributor-retailer has its own design guidelines, approved materials list and infrastructure agreement template that supplements WSA 03:2011. We are familiar with the QUU Design and Construction Standards for Reticulation Networks, Logan Water specifications and their respective hold-point and witnessed inspection requirements. This means less back-and-forth on documentation and a smoother path to conditional acceptance for your development.
